Shot Errors
When you are hitting it off the heel
- Clubhead is closing too fast! Make sure grip is not too strong.
- Focus on fingers holding grip and not thumb and forefinger.
- Loose relaxed swing, shift weight to front side and around.
- Hold right knee in place as it is causing early extension, don’t raise club back too far, take right shoulder and fire it toward the target.
- Arms farther out at address. To get the right swing plane, try low grip, at 9:00 butt should point towards target to get correct plane.
- Are you standing to close at address?
- Do you have too much weight on your toes?
- Is you swing to In to out? You could be loosing spine angle because you are over-rotated.
- Keep right shoulder back, angle of club check
- Concentrate on shifting weight to left heel
- Maintain spine angle
- Keep weight back and make sure turn isn’t forcing ott and bringing you closer to the ball
When you are topping the ball
- If you are topping the ball make sure you are starting your downswing with your hips and that your arms and hands are relaxed. Feel the rhythm. Baby biiirrrrrd Bump! Bump starts the hips rotating and downswing. Birrrrrrd is the feeling of the club hinging in the backswing.
Sky Ball with the Driver
- Sky ball with driver. Move ball forward in stance and make sure weight has shifted to front leg. Sweep the ball coming up not down like irons. Sweep not steep.
Fairway Woods chunking or toping on Tight Lies
- This is not a driver swing! You must shift the weight earlier like an iron. To make it even more impactful, walk toward the ball after you hit it!
Slicing or Pull Hooking Driver
- Make sure you keep your right elbow in to your body on back swing and club grip is low. Sweeping inside motion is key. Don’t disconnect arms from body and cast/flail with club. Chuck Cook: Pull Cure - Right Elbow. Wait for arms to drop.
Over the Top
- Try the Lee Trevino figure of 8 swing. I found it really helpful in practice to exaggerate a very outside takeaway - the only place to go from there is to get the club on a more in-to-out path.
- The club against the wall drill - put your butt up against the wall. Get set up with your takeaway, then on downswing club should drag along the wall for as long a possible. If club lifts off the wall, you’re coming OTT. See Wall Drill
Hitting Wedges Too High on Full Shots
- Position ball a bit back from center
- Increased swing speed will make the ball go too high and difficult to control
- Swing a little easier
- Compact swing, 10:30 tops.
- Trajectory will be lower but under control
- Probably not hitting many full shots with the 60
